New documents from a federal inquiry into Jeffrey Epstein show emails between the late financier and Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, from 2012 to 2014. The messages discuss Musk visiting Epstein's private island in the Caribbean and Epstein coming to SpaceX in California with three women described as his assistants. These exchanges happened years after Epstein's 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor but before his 2019 arrest on sex trafficking charges.

Background

Jeffrey Epstein built a network of powerful people through his wealth and properties, including a private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands known as Little Saint James. He died in jail in 2019 while facing federal charges of sex trafficking minors. Court cases and government releases have since uncovered many connections between Epstein and business leaders, politicians, and others.

Elon Musk runs Tesla, which makes electric cars, and SpaceX, which launches rockets and works on space travel. Musk has spoken publicly about Epstein in the past. He called Epstein a creep and said he turned down repeated invites to the island. Musk also used Epstein's name to question others, like Bill Gates, over their own ties to the financier.

These latest files come from the U.S. Justice Department. They include over three million pages released recently. The Musk-Epstein emails surfaced as part of this big document drop. Earlier releases in 2025 from a House committee also mentioned Musk in Epstein records, pointing to a possible island visit planned for December 2014.

The emails paint a picture of back-and-forth contact over two years. They mix social plans with casual talk. Musk was building his companies at the time, dealing with work stress and family life. Epstein offered escapes, like parties or quiet island time. No records confirm Musk ever went to the island or that anything improper happened during talks or visits.

Key Details

The emails started in 2012. On September 25, Epstein invited Musk to his Caribbean island, saying to bring friends and that he would be there in November and December. Musk replied the same day: Sounds good, will try to make it.

Talks got more specific. In October, Musk said he and his then-wife Talulah would be in the Caribbean end of the year. He assumed Epstein would be on the island. Epstein confirmed and offered a helicopter from St. Barts, 45 minutes away.

Island Visit Planning

By November 2, Musk asked for a good time between December 23 and 30. Epstein said after Christmas, any sunny day, and added he was glad Musk was coming. Musk proposed December 28, 29, or 30, saying he looked forward to it.

Around Christmas 2012, Epstein invited Musk to the island again. Musk responded he wanted parties after working hard, not a peaceful island stay. He mentioned St. Barts or elsewhere to let loose. Epstein understood and suggested St. Barts instead, noting the ratio on his island might make Talulah uncomfortable. Musk replied that ratio was not a problem for her.

In December 2013, Musk said he would be in the British Virgin Islands and St. Barts over holidays and asked for a good time to visit. Epstein said any day from the 1st to 8th, always space for you. Musk followed up: When should we head to your island on the 2nd? Epstein picked January 2 or 3 as perfect and said he would come get them. Days later, Epstein canceled due to work in New York. He wrote he looked forward to spending time with just fun as the agenda.

Epstein's staff kept track too. His assistant Lesley Groff had a calendar note for December 6, 2014: Elon Musk to island (is this still happening?). Logs from January 2013 show Epstein telling an associate about meeting Musk for lunch.

SpaceX Visit

In late February 2013, Epstein went to SpaceX. On February 22, Groff emailed Musk copies of three women's passports for ID, noting one was upside down but he could print it. Jeffrey will have his ID with him.

"Jeffrey Epstein and 3 of his assistants are in CA and going to visit SpaceX at 1:00 today, Monday Feb 25th." – Lesley Groff email to Elon Musk

The next day, February 26, Epstein emailed Musk thanks for the tour. He added: You would have had fun at xmas. Musk replied: I see, with a smiley face.

Other notes show Epstein congratulating Musk on a SpaceX rocket launch, with friendly replies back and forth.

What This Means

These documents add to questions about Epstein's reach into business and tech circles. Musk has denied close ties, but the emails show willing plans for social time. No proof exists of trips happening or wrongdoing by Musk. Still, the friendly tone stands out against his later public comments.

The releases keep Epstein's story in the news. They remind people of his crimes and who stayed in touch after his first conviction. For Musk, it comes as Tesla faces sales issues and SpaceX pushes Starship tests. Investors and the public watch his every move.

Lawyers for Epstein's victims have pushed for full releases. This batch answers some questions but leaves others, like if meetings led anywhere. Musk has not commented on these specific emails yet. His companies did not respond to requests for details.

The files also mention others, like Steve Bannon, showing Epstein's wide contacts even late in life. As more pages come out, they could reveal further links. For now, these emails show Musk and Epstein planned meetups that mostly fell through, but the contact was real and repeated.
