French President Nicolas Sarcozy says, (aucuns burqas permis ici): “It (meaning burqas and niqabs) will not be welcome on the territory of the French republic!It is not a sign of religion, it is a sign of subserviance!” The French parliament is to review whether or not the wearing of the burqa will compromise women’s lib and the secular conventions in France. (Students and government workers are also not allowed to wear any religious emblems by law to school or work respectively, which is a partial French translation for separation of church and state.
